Jnauary 22nd 2019
Today was my first day of pre-student teaching for the 2019 semester. I was very excited to start working with the kids and learning the new routine. Last semester I had worked in the same location but on Friday afternoons. This meant I had a feel for what the afternoon is like but I had not seen the morning arrival or most of the daily routine. I was also looking forward to starting the new semester with the kids too. It meant a fresh start with everyone. In the class, we have between 15 and 16 children with some being Monday, Wednesday Friday children. And some are on Tuesday and Thursday children.
I arrived at 7:15 to get myself settled in and to help set up the classroom and snack. The kids started to come in at 7:40 and we had 5 present for breakfast from 8:00 to 8:30. Around nine we had almost a full class. All cam in either nervous or excited we did not have any children cry. As I said, all of the children were familiar to me except for some that were only Tuesday Thursday.
Our morning consisted of small groups, a story, snack, going outside (as well as dressing and undressing), singing songs, going over the weather and calendar, having lunch, reading a nap story and rest time until 2:30.
I felt very comfortable in the classroom right away. I was able to sue some classroom management without stepping over laura or Angie. I also met the PKE student teacher on Tuesday. I think having my 205 class s last semster helped me get a feel for the children and teachers. I was also able to take on more leadership roels such as offering to take children one-on-one to the restroom.
As expected today was exciting but also very tiring. new enw routine and changes were exciting and a lot to take in.
I have already begun forming ideas for what I want to do for my display board. I have more confidence in myself now and will do everything I can to make this a good semester to me and a memorable time for the children. I look forward to working with Angie and laura and the PKE students.
